I will do it this time. I will do the thing. Because DragonSparkzzz tagged me and it's kind of fun now that I've gotten the opportunity to overhaul everything I felt was too glaring/angsty/dark/boring in Hartsborn. Also, it's a quarter to 4 in the morning and I can't seem to sleep like a normal person.

Anyway, as requested, here's Rory:
Rory in color by ShinySilver

1. Rory is a butt. He comes across as standoffish and distrustful, but that's only because he is.

2. He has a photographic memory and is especially good at remembering songs.

3. He loves to sing. His voice is very nice.

4. He is from the Northern Province of Dunlin and it's obvious by his way of speaking: unnecessary words are left off and the rest crowd in on each other. Coupled with his wariness of others, it's rare to hear him speak more than a few words at a time until he's warmed up to someone.

5. While he isn't a friendly person on the surface, he's very loyal to those he grows attached to.

6. He sees ghosts. Like, a lot.

7. He's Valan and has a lot more personal of a relationship with his gods than others in the religion. It means that he is both serious and casual about his beliefs depending on the circumstances. He has a strong sense of moral right and wrong.

8. An ideal situation, if you were to ask Rory, would be to have a cabin all to himself on the outskirts of some Northern town where it is quiet and nobody bothers him or drags him along on any adventures. This will never actually happen. Really, he does need the drive that risky situations and bad circumstances give him and he would go mad with boredom if he were to sequester himself away.

I'm bad at choosing folks to tag. Um.

Mutual Gifts

2 min read
Will I come to regret this post? Let's find out!

I need excuses to practice art. I'm also a lazy gift giver. So. If you follow me here on DA, I'm proposing a mutual deal: request something for me to draw, and I'll draw it.

That's it. No strings attached.

One per person, and with the understanding that a) it may take me some time, especially if a lot of people take me up on this, and b) the styles/skills employed will probably be somewhat experimental, and therefore inconsistent to some extent.

Comment below, or send me a message.  I look forward to having something to work on!

Edit:
I got a Cintiq for Christmas so I'm extra excited for this.

Happy 2015!

Okay.  I've been negligent on here, but that's happened before over the years, so it's no surprise.  My motivation to create art has a definite wax and wane.  Especially considering the year I've had.  I've needed to put more focus on me, and, when I can, my writing.

I came out earlier this year to friends and family as transgender, which might have surprised some people.  Gender identity is something I mostly lacked as a child and struggled with most of my adult life.  It was easier, to me, to shove myself to the end of the spectrum I thought I was obligated to be on, and work very hard to make it seem as though I fit in there, than it was to admit to myself that I was miserable.  It's still difficult for me to not feel selfish when dealing with any sort of emotion (yay childhood trauma!), so admitting to having feelings in such a public way has been both mortifying and humbling.  Being known as transgender in most aspects of my life has eliminated a lot of carefully cultivated privacy.  And yet, almost everyone--friends, family, acquaintances, strangers--have been wonderful.  I'm very lucky to be surrounded by such amazing people.

So my year has been busy, and scary, and wonderful, and art's taken a backseat, as it does in most aspects of my life.  Book two of the Hartsborn trilogy, The Black Lute is crawling along.  It's all coming together.

Thanks to all who watch and read.  It does mean a lot to me.

The Happenin's

As you might have noticed, I finally got around to posting a few more photographs from my trip to Europe earlier this year.  I'm afraid I've done little else post-worthy in the meantime, thought I did (tentatively) finish The White Hart in August.

Not much else to report.  Sorry about that.

Update

I should probably do this more often.  But honestly, I don't always have a lot to write about (at least, not concerning the real world or my own life in general).

Let's see:  I'll be leaving for London on Saturday, then moving on the Paris, renting a car, and driving along the southern coast and into Italy.  It should be a pretty amazing trip.  I've not done much driving in a foreign country, or traveling with such a large group, so it will be new and fun.

Hartsborn is coming along in leaps and bounds.  That last draft, which I bragged about incessantly for its 87,000 word count, is nearly done being rewritten, and will end somewhere over 140,000 words.  Then will come some serious editing and outright chopping, but I expect to have it sent off to at least a couple of agents by the end of the year.

Also later in the year, we'll be visiting Hawaii for the first time on an all-expenses-paid vacation, because my husband's company is pretty damn kind to us.

That's life right now, and all I can think of that's of note.  Ciao, mi bellas!
